Ashdown- Melba Jean Porter, age, 73 of Ashdown, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, November 8th, surrounded by her family.

Melba was born on August 3, 1943 in Laurel Mississippi to W. C. and Nell Broadway. She was a retired teacher that impacted hundreds of peoples lives.

Melba was married to Vollie Porter. They have celebrated 55 years of marriage and are the true meaning of "Love".

Besides her husband, she left behind three sisters and brother-in-laws; Sue and Earl Hagan, Pat and Duncan McCaskey and Connie and Billy Raymer; a son and daughter-in-law, Dewayne and Alana Porter; a daughter and son-in-law; Angela and Michael Parker; several nieces and nephews, 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her brother, Billy Broadway.

She was a member of Richmond Methodist Church and Eastern Star.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, November 12 at 10:00 am at Richmond Methodist Church. Pastor Jim Cross will be officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of Madden Funeral Home.
