Mary Helen Sutton, 78, passed away on May 22, 2017 at her home in Ashdown, AR. Mrs. Sutton was born on March 21, 1939 in Malvern, AR to Esther and Austin Albey. She married her high school sweetheart, James Sutton, in 1957, who then joined the air force, and they spent the first twenty years of their marriage traveling around the world to such places as the Panama Canal, Goose Bay Labrado, New Mexico, and North Dakota. She and James retired and moved back to James' hometown of Ben Lomond in 1977 and then moved to Ashdown, where they have resided for over thirty years.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Ben Lomond. Mary was and avid reader, donating time at the local library. She and James loved to camp, fish and spend time with family and friends. She volunteered with the VFW Post 4562 Texarkana, AR, holding several positions including President and Treasurer of the Ladies auxiliary. She was a VAVS Associate Representative at the Overton Brooks VA Medical Center in Shreveport. She was also a long time tax preparer in Ben Lomond and Ashdown. Mrs. Sutton was preceded in death by her parents, her two brothers, Loren and Frank Albey, and her son James E Sutton, Jr. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, two daughters and sons-in-law, Terri and Mark Buster of Ben Lomond and Karen and Jerry Jackson of Ashdown, four grandchildren and their spouses, Melissa and Brad Wright, Michael and Brandy Buster, Carrie and Jimmy Wright and Jacie Jackson, along with 9 great grandchildren, Rebecca Wood, Haley and Timothy Wright, Blayne, Avry and Liam Buster, Ayden, Skylar and Gracyn Wright, along with a number of other relative and close friends.
The family would like to thank Encompass Hospice, especially Kadie, for all their kindness.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening May 24, 2017, 5 - 7 pm at Madden Funeral Home, Ashdown, AR. Graveside services will be at 10:00 on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at the Ben Lomond Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Buster, Jerry Jackson, Brad Wright, Michael Buster, Jimmy Wright, Timothy Wright and Blayne Buster.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ashdown Library.
