Joe Bob Matthews, 78, of Tyler, TX passed away September 4, 2017 in Tyler. Mr. Matthews was born January 10, 1939 in Ashdown, AR to Lemuel and Nancy Matthews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, John Billie Matthews and two sisters, Virginia Sue Hinton and Norma Kathleen Priest. He served in the United States Navy.
Mr. Matthews is survived by his wife, Dianne Matthews of Arlington, TX, one son and daughter-in-law, Joseph Scott and Suzanne Matthews of Benton, AR, one daughter and son-in-law, Ashley Karen and Michael Thomas of Arlington, TX, one sister Jimmy Nan Willis Clark, seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces.
Joe was from an American Indian Heritage and was very proud of his affiliation with the Choctaw Nation. He served in the Navy from 1961 to 1965 and was very loyal to his country and family. He loved to fish and spent many days at "sales and auctions" where he would buy "junk" and trade for a profit. Everyone was welcomed at Joe's home.
Visitation will be Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at Madden Funeral Home, Ashdown, AR from 1:00 – 4:30. A graveside service will be Thursday, September 7, 2017 at Hicks Cemetery in Ashdown, AR at 11:00 a.m.
